Ground investigation option "Surface Wave Exploration Method"
Now, earthquake measures start from the ground! We can calculate how much the investigation site will shake.
The damage caused by earthquakes varies depending on the magnitude of the earthquake and the hardness of the ground. During the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, even areas far from the epicenter experienced damage to buildings, including structural damage and collapses. One of the factors contributing to this is believed to be the hardness of the ground. The magnitude of an earthquake is influenced by the ground strength and layer thickness as the earthquake occurs in an engineering foundation (where seismic waves travel at over 400 m/s) and propagates through the ground. In other words, if the ground is soft and the layer thickness is large, the ground shaking will be more intense. The investigation of ground shaking susceptibility calculates the necessary coefficient Co to determine seismic forces based on the results of ground surveys conducted through "surface wave exploration." It is possible to estimate seismic forces taking into account the ground conditions of the survey site.
